Anonymous asked: The photos on your tumblr are simply gorgeous. Any idea as to how to edit the images as so? xoxo
Thank you! I don’t take the photos or edit them myself, however I do have some knowledge of photoshop & various resources so I may be able to help (& I am assuming you have photoshop too, otherwise I’m not sure on alternate editing methods). For a “vintage” effect on photos, Carrie has written a tutorial here & has uploaded photoshop actions here. I find these are a good starting point to familiarise yourself with the certain effects and types of colours you can use to bring out a certain look. With photography, though, it’s always important to remember to keep it looking subtle. If you use too much contrast, for example, it becomes very obvious. If you are interested in making a photo look more grainy, like a film photo, rather than the sleek image most digital cameras produce, you can use the “film grain” effect in photoshop. My preferred method for film grain is to duplicate the photo layer, then go to filter>blur>motion blur & set the ‘angle’ to ‘42’ and the distance to ‘3’ & click ok. Then I go to filter>artistic>film grain & set grain to ‘1’, highlight area to ‘1’, & intensity to ‘0’ & click ok. After that I adjust the opacity of the layer, usually to somewhere between 40-70%. It really depends on the image & the look you’re going for though. If you find the picture is too grainy or blurry for your taste using this method, you can omit the ‘motion blur’ step and use film grain just the same.
I don’t usually post this sort of stuff here, but I hope it helps all the same. I’m not the most knowledgeable person on the topic, nor am a particularly great photo editor, haha. Good luck with your editing!
